Introduction
What is spam ? Spam refers to electronic junk mail or junk newsgroup postings. Some people define spam even more generally as any unsolicited e-mail. In addition to being a nuisance, spam also eats up a lot of network bandwidth.

Like many other e-mail users, you have become a victim of spam.
Unfortunately, there is no foolproof way to rid yourself of spam.

eg. When you have a mail box or post box in a public area, can you prevent other people that you don't like from droping a mail into your post box ?

Overview
AMC's mail server is equipped a RBL(Realtime-Black-List) spam-check system for all incoming mails.
Each mail are given points, according to the public RBL. If the mail hits 6 points, it will be considered as a spam-mail.
Thus being filtered by the mail server from your inbox

However, we can't have too stringent rules on spam system as it might filter off some important mails during the check.

How Spammer reach you but not your colleague
Spammer harvests email addresseses to propagate junk mails.
The way to beat these harvesters is to keep your address out of public area.
If they see it, you're just askin' for it.

Common victims
  • Email address used to broadcast marketing materials
  • Display your email address on website or advertizing website

    Solutions
  • Refrain from using an active email address for marketing purpose
  • Use a inactive address for broadcasting purpose
  • If spammer is really targeting your email address, change to a new address
